A view through my scuttle

Hi! I am Thomas. I do maths - most of the day. If I don't, I do every kind of funny, scary, nice or strange things. Life is fun and I enjoy it! Every now nad then I will write down inspiring, memorable, funny or just plainly nice things into my scrapbook here. To not forget them.

Oh yeah and I thought I should mention it: I am awesome ;)

Making Sushi (and a cake)

Today my flatmate Anna and I had a cooking and baking session. We decided to have Sushi for lunch. Actually we determined it already yesterday so I went off to buy stuff at a small asian supermarket. As a sidenode: I went by bike to Munich (approx. 20 km) and now I think I should definitely do more sports. You need a pack of roasted seaweed sheets, sushi rice and wasabi paste. We decided for smoked salomon instead of raw fish, since we were not sure where to find good and fresh fish in Munich. Furthermore we got a ginger tuber and had some vinegar, sugar and salt at home. All in all I think I spent about 10-15 EUR, which is way cheaper then I expected, especially considering the fact that none of the ingredients (but the fish) is entirely used up. I will not give a detailed instruction on how to make them, but I was really surprised by how easy they are to prepare. Here is a picture of a roll perfectly curled up by Anna (I wasn’t trusted with this task of utmost importance ;)).

We then decided to celebrate this event by taking out all the nice dinnerware, which is kind of really unusual for us. It looked really neat; maybe we should do it more often.

Anyways after this most delicious lunch we came up with the thought that we had no cake for our usual sunday afternoon coffee session. After a short consulation and inspection of our rather short list of available supplies we decided for a cherry cake. I took charge of making it, since it is somehow my speciality to make cakes for the flat. I decided to use the small cake form my lovely girlfriend (I hope she is reading that part ;)) gave me for my birthday. And in no time it was already in the oven.

And when it came out it looked like this:

Admittedly the edges are a bit dark but it was nevertheless rather tasty, I think. All in all it was a culinary rather perfect sunday :)
